The new 2022 trauma center verification standards from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) require trauma centers to have documented evidence that their performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program is effective as detailed in Standard 7.3. The intent of the new standard is to make sure no one loses sight of the main goal — to improve a trauma program’s performance and the safety of its patients. The American College of Surgeons Committee (ACS) recently released its new standards for care of the injured patient in Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient - 2022 Standards. The first major revision to the standards in eight years, it now includes several new requirements for surgical and medical specialists that will require many hospitals to make additional financial commitments.
